Amin Maalouf

Amin Maalouf was born in 1949 in Lebanon. He is a Catholic and was educated at a Jesuit school, where he learned French, Ancient Greek, and Latin. Since 1976, he has lived and worked in France. He worked as a journalist for twelve years, serving as the director of the magazine "An-Nahar" and editor-in-chief of "Jeune Afrique." Since 1983, following the great success of his first book, "The Crusades Through Arab Eyes," he has dedicated himself to writing. He has authored novels, essays, and opera librettos. All his books have been translated into many languages. His novel "The Rock of Tanios" was awarded the Goncourt Prize in 1993. In 2011, he was elected a member of the French Academy.
