Miranta Xafa

Miranda Xafa was born in Athens, where she completed her basic economic studies at Pierce College. She pursued her postgraduate studies at the University of Pennsylvania in the USA, where she completed her doctoral dissertation in 1979, focusing on the import discounts of industrial products from the association agreement with the European Community. She began her career in 1980 as an economist at the International Monetary Fund in Washington, where she focused on stabilization programs for Latin America. From 1991 to 1993, she served as the director of the economic office of Prime Minister K. Mitsotakis and subsequently worked as an international markets analyst in London. A member of the IMF Executive Board from 2004 to 2009, she is now a senior scholar at the Centre for International Governance Innovation. She has taught economics at the University of Pennsylvania, where she completed her doctorate, and at Princeton, and has published articles and studies on international economic issues.
