
CHaralampos TH. Mpouras
Charalambos Bouras was born in 1933 in Preveza and grew up in Chios. He studied Architecture at the National Technical University of Athens and Art History in Paris. He earned doctorates from the Universities of Thessaloniki and the Sorbonne. As an architect with the Directorate of Restoration (1960-1966), he worked on the restoration of monuments such as Vravrona, the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, and the Monastery of Hosios Loukas, among others. He taught History of Architecture at the School of Engineering of the Aristotle University (1966-1974) and at the School of Architecture of the National Technical University of Athens (1974-2000). He was a member of the Central Archaeological Council (1974-2005) and a member and president of the Acropolis Monuments Conservation Committee from 1975. He also served as the General Secretary of the Christian Archaeological Society (1979-2000). His name is closely associated with the restoration works of the Parthenon.
Among his publications on ancient, Byzantine, and modern monuments are: "Byzantine Ribbed Vaults" (Athens 1965), "The Restoration of the Stoa of Vravrona" (Athens 1967), "Nea Moni of Chios: History and Architecture" (Athens 1985) - (with Laskarina Boura), "Greek Church Architecture in the 12th Century" (Athens 2002), "Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Architecture in Greece" (Athens 2006).
He passed away on July 27, 2016, at the age of 83.
