Siddharth Kara

Siddharth Kara was born in Tennessee, United States, to an Indian father and a Persian mother. He studied at Duke University and Columbia University, where he graduated with a master's degree in business administration. He worked for several years as an investment banker and corporate executive. He left his business career to dedicate himself to researching modern forms of slavery, advocating for victims' rights, and writing. Recently, he earned a law degree. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the organization "Free the Slaves." In 2005, he was invited to testify on the issue of modern slavery before the U.S. Congressional Human Rights Committee. He advises the United Nations and various governments on the strategy and legal framework they should adopt against this modern scourge. Kara first encountered the horrors of slavery at a refugee shelter in Bosnia in 1995. Subsequently, he traveled to twenty countries across six continents to investigate these crimes, interviewing more than five hundred victims of all kinds. He has witnessed transactions and confronted trafficking and exploitation rings. "Sex Trafficking" is the first of three books by the author on the subject of modern slavery. In 2011, the film "Trafficking" is set to be released, for which the author wrote the screenplay (CineStory Screenwriting Award, 2003).
