Joanna Bourke

Born and educated in New Zealand, she currently resides in London and is a Professor of History at Birkbeck College. She has also taught at many English-speaking universities, including the Australian National University and Cambridge. She has authored numerous articles and essays. Her writing style, combined with the thorough documentation of the subjects she tackles, has established her as one of the most successful authors of contemporary history. Among her many works, the following stand out: "Rape: A History from 1890s to the Present" (2007) and "An Intimate History of Killing: Face-to-Face Killing in 20th Century Warfare" (1999).
