Athanasios Smokovitis

Graduate in Veterinary Medicine (1957) and Biology (1966), Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (1968). Professional experience includes: Thessaloniki Artificial Insemination Institute (1960), Ministry of Agriculture, Veterinary Inspection of Macedonia (1964-1970), Laboratory of Physiology at the Veterinary School of Thessaloniki, as an assistant (1970-1973), Institute for Medical Research, Mitchell Foundation, Washington, D.C. U.S.A., as a visiting investigator (1973-1975), Indiana University, School of Medicine, Dept. of Physiology, as a Research Associate in Physiology (1975-1976), Gaubius Institute, Health Research Organization, TNO, Leiden, The Netherlands, as a visiting investigator and advisor on research concerning the relationship between fibrinolysis and tissue healing (1976-1977), Laboratory of Physiology at the Medical School of the University of Vienna, as a visiting investigator, Lecturer, Honorar Professor, and Research Associate in the Committee for the Research of Atherosclerosis and Thrombosis of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (1977-1981), Veterinary School of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, as Professor and Director of the Physiology Laboratory (1981-). In 1979, he was unanimously awarded the title of "Honorar Professor" in Physiology by the Medical School of the University of Vienna. He served as a member of the Board of Directors of the National Organization for Medicines (EOF). He has published numerous research papers in reputable international journals or presented them at international conferences, with proceedings published. He has authored many scientific texts and books of intellectual inquiry and orientation. He is a member of scientific societies.
