Gene Wilder

The actor, author, and director Gene Wilder was born in Milwaukee, USA, in 1933. As an actor, he participated in more than 28 films and television shows, usually playing comedic roles. These include Arthur Penn's "Bonnie and Clyde" (1968), the comedies "Start the Revolution Without Me" by Bud Yorkin (1970), and "Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex* (*But Were Afraid to Ask)" by Woody Allen (1972), among others. He was nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Leo Bloom in Mel Brooks' "The Producers" (1968). He also starred in Mel Brooks' "Young Frankenstein" (1974), for which he earned another Oscar nomination for screenplay. Another well-known film of his is "The Woman in Red" (1984), which he directed and wrote. Having retired from active work in recent years, he has turned his attention to writing. He has published five books: the autobiographical "Kiss Me Like A Stranger: My Search for Love and Art" (2005), three novels, "My French Whore" (2007), "The Woman Who Wouldn't" (2008), and "Something to Remember You By" (2013), and the short story collection "What Is This Thing Called Love?" (2010). He lives in Connecticut on the East Coast with his wife, Karen.
