Joe Abercrombie

Joe Abercrombie was born in Lancaster, England, on the last day of 1974. He was educated at Lancaster Royal Grammar School, where he spent much of his time playing video games, role-playing games, and drawing maps of imaginary places. He studied psychology at the University of Manchester, where, with the dream of bringing a new dimension to fantasy literature, he began writing about the adventures of a warrior named Logen Ninefingers—a project that was quickly abandoned. After his studies, he moved to London, where he worked at a television production company and later as a freelance editor. Since then, he has worked on numerous documentaries, music videos, and concerts for artists such as Barry White and Coldplay. With the necessary free time at his disposal, in 2002, six years after his initial attempt, he returned to the adventures of Logen Ninefingers and this time dedicated himself to the project. With the heroic help and support of his family, the work "The Blade Itself" was completed in 2004. The sequels, "Before They Are Hanged" and "Last Argument of Kings," were published in 2007 and 2008, during which Joe was a finalist for the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer. The work "Best Served Cold," a standalone book set in the same world, was published in June 2009, and a second standalone, titled "The Heroes," in 2011. Joe now lives in Bath with his wife, Lou, and their daughters, Grace and Eve.
