THanasis Tzavaras
Emeritus Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Athens, Thanasis Tzavaras, was born in 1939 in Athens, where he completed his general and medical studies. From 1965 to 1978, he lived in Paris, where he pursued further training and worked in neurology-psychiatry, conducted research in the field of neuropsychology, and studied psychoanalysis within the framework of the Lacanian School. From 1978, he taught at various universities in Greece and, starting in 1998, as a professor of psychiatry, initially in the Department of Nursing and later in the Department of Methodology, History, and Theory of Science (MHTE) at the University of Athens. He was a co-editor of the series "Triapsis Logos" by Exantas publications and was a member of the four-member Editorial Team of the psychoanalytic journal "Ek ton ysteron" and a founding member of the journal "Synapsis." He published approximately 250 articles in Greek, French, and English and edited around thirty-five books. His most recent books include: "Dear Brother Vasileios" (Exantas, 1999), "Psychanalecta" (Nisos, 2005), "Journey from Kythera" (Common Ground Psychiatry, 2007), "Hippocrates Street" (Plethron, 2011). In 2006, he retired from university teaching as an emeritus professor. He passed away in Athens on January 25, 2016, at the age of 77.
