Clear- Active: Includes a built-in preamp that requires a battery (usually 9V) to amplify the signal, provide higher output, and offer active EQ capabilities (frequency boost/cut).
- Passive: It does not have active amplification or a battery requirement; it preserves the natural signal of the pickups/sensors by passing it only through passive potentiometers (Volume/Tone control).
