The author of the book, holding a master's degree in Theology and Law from Athens, draws upon ancient as well as modern sources, discussing the life of the Saint, from his birth and his actions as a military man to the tortures he endured from Diocletian for his faith in Christ, his miracles, and his martyrdom.
He also writes about the temples dedicated to the Saint, with particular emphasis on the patriarchal church in Fanar, on the Saint's reputation, on his place in folklore, on the iconography and hymnography of the Church, as well as on the epithets with which he has been characterized by our hymnographers.
The work concludes with the author's reference to the persecutions unleashed by the Roman emperors against Christians and the reasons that provoked these persecutions.
The book is introduced by the late Archbishop of Athens, Mr. Christodoulos.
