The Center for the Greek Language (KEG) develops material, both print and electronic, for the learning and teaching of Greek as a second/foreign language, with the aim of supporting the institution of the Greek Language Examinations. This material follows the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and implements the New Analytical Examination Program for the Certification of Proficiency in Greek (2013).
Within this framework, a book was developed for level G1 ("Very Good Knowledge"). Specifically, it includes four complete samples of G1 examination topics, each of which examines the skills of: (a) comprehension of written speech, (b) language use, (c) comprehension of oral speech, (d) production of written speech, and (e) production of oral speech. At the end of the book, there is an appendix with the solutions to the topics and the texts that are heard in the audio files (CD) for the comprehension of oral speech.
The usefulness of the books in this series is not limited to familiarizing candidates with the format of the examinations and organizing their preparation for the exams. The ambition of the book is to offer students-candidates in the Greek Language Examinations a useful and reliable tool for their personal study for the development, empowerment, and evaluation of their skills at level G1. Additionally, it can serve as a teaching manual that, with its contemporary themes and demanding activities, will help teachers of Greek as a second/foreign language to stimulate interest and cultivate the receptiveness of their students.
