The book aims at the first contact with reading phonemes and writing the graphemes of the alphabet. It does not rely on random writing and random connections between phoneme and grapheme but guides the student systematically to the mastery of correct writing and reading.
Each lesson includes:
- the first exercise, in which we try to connect an experiential image with an experiential sound produced by the phoneme we want to teach.
- the second exercise, which is a phonological exercise that also allows for a small speech therapy intervention for children who struggle to pronounce the phoneme or confuse it with another.
- the third exercise, which resembles reference charts that create stimuli for functional reading aiming at each phoneme of each word.
- the fourth exercise, which is a writing exercise where we connect the grapheme with the phoneme, as students write the corresponding grapheme for the first time.
Colorful arcs help guide children in the right direction. At the end, there is also a depiction of the letter with dots for a transition to writing with lines. We believe this writing effort will help preschool children by providing them the tools for a proper start in the world of language and writing.
