Until today, it remains one of the most dangerous issues in modern Greek historiography. There are many reasons why an attempt was made to silence the tragic events, to repress the traumatic experience, to conceal the cost of defeat, and to gloss over Turkish nationalism.

Based on our current logic, it is incomprehensible that at some point, the policy of silence and oblivion was chosen. The significant historical Greek presence in our Eastern territories was forgotten, and the universal character of Hellenism was lost in the South of the Balkan Peninsula.

Pontus, Ionia, Cappadocia, Eastern Thrace became reference points for survivors and roads and squares in the new cities of refugees. For the average citizen, these places were incomprehensible reference points of some disorganized populations.

The edition you hold in your hands is an attempt to carefully and accurately traverse historical time and to schematically present the entirety of contradictions and key historical milestones.
