Description

To this day, it remains one of the most 'dangerous' issues of modern Greek historiography. There are many reasons why the tragic events were attempted to be silenced, the traumatic experience repressed, the cost of defeat concealed, and Turkish nationalism sanitized.

Based on our current logic, it is incomprehensible that at some point the policy of silence and oblivion was chosen. The significant historical Greek presence in our Eastern region was forgotten, and the universal character of Hellenism was lost in the South of the Balkan Peninsula.

Pontus, Ionia, Cappadocia, Eastern Thrace became reference points for the survivors and names of streets and squares in the new cities of the refugees. For the average citizen, these places were incomprehensible reference points of some unclassifiable populations.

The edition you hold in your hands is an attempt to calmly and accurately traverse the historical timeline and to schematically present the totality of the contradictions and the main historical milestones.
