Description

The L293D is a monolithic integrated, high voltage, high current, 4-channel driver.

Basically, this means that using this chip you can use DC motors and power supplies up to 36 Volts, which means some very large motors, and the chip can provide a maximum current of 600mA per channel. The L293D chip is also known as an H-Bridge type. The H-Bridge is typically an electrical circuit that allows voltage to be applied to a load in either direction to an output, e.g., a motor.

Features:

  • Wide supply voltage range: 4.5 V to 36 V
  • Separate input-logic supply
  • Internal ESD protection
  • Thermal shutdown
  • Output current 1 A per channel (600 mA for L293D)
  • Maximum output current 2 A per channel (1.2 A for L293D)
  • Output clamp diodes for inductive
  • Transient suppression L293D

  • The best integrated maybe that is available for driving small DC motors and more. Without voltage drops at the output with up to 1A as the manufacturer says at any voltage between 5V and 35V and if it works. Even for driving mosfets for switching applications and whatever else you can think of. Compared to others in the same category, the best I have tried...

  • The aforementioned integrated circuit is widely used in driving small electric motors in robotic car constructions with Arduino. It is reliable and, of course, affordable!

I never understood how it works. I followed a tutorial with Arduino and the only thing it did was overheat
