In this particular work, the logical chain of reasoning is interrupted from time to time, as the characters shed the garment of the whole and don the attire of the actor who plays the role. Thus, the seemingly dramatic progression of the work is halted, and the audience travels from one moment to the dramatic narrative and to the next moment to reality.
But which reality, when it is also fabricated and destined to interrupt the action, only to continue it naturally a little later? The spectators do not identify with the characters of the play, as the director and the actors mediate as theatrical Entities, confirming the theory that when Life becomes Art, as is often the case in theater, it needs to be reminded to the audience that they are watching a simulation of life.
The audience is a collection of people with a flexible disposition and availability, who in their daily lives see a fake rose and say "Beautiful like a real one" and later see a real rose and say "Beautiful like a fake one." This back-and-forth between reality and fabrication is achieved by the ingenious Pirandello in his work.
