Description

The archive of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), this unique collection of documents about the history of Greek society, was necessarily routed through communist countries during times of persecution, where it recorded romantic entanglements (losses, detachments of parts of the material, looting).

To clarify the historical research-related issues regarding the party archive, it must address the problems in which Greek communists were involved. Soviet communism (the party of Lenin and the global center in Moscow), national communisms (Romanian party - Ceaușescu, Yugoslav party - Tito), eurocommunism (Italian party, etc.) are some of the themes.

The fragmentation of KKE in 1968, KKE Interior, the entrapment of KKE Interior and the successor party of EAR (of Leonidas Kourkouas) in Skopje from 1968-1988, the attempt of Slavo-Macedonians to document the views of the Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia regarding the Macedonian Issue focusing on the Greek Civil War, the stance of KKE under General Secretary Harilaos Florakis, subsequent events in the archives at the Coalition building in Athens (1989-present), and the current state of the archival material are offered for discussion.
