General information about the LUMBOSACRAL belt

The LUMBOSACRAL belt is an essential aid for patients with back or spinal problems. Back pain (dorsalgia) and lower back pain (lumbago) are perhaps the most common reasons for visiting an orthopedic clinic. It usually affects middle-aged and elderly people, less often children, adolescents, and young adults. It should be clarified that lumbago and dorsalgia are not diseases but symptoms. To treat them, we must identify the causes that provoke them and thus make a diagnosis.

• In children and adolescents, low back pain is most commonly due to spondylolysis or spondylolisthesis, usually as a result of intense sports activities.
• In young adults, especially those who lift weights either because they perform manual labor or because they engage in intense sports, the most common cause is discopathy or herniated disc with pressure on one or more nerve roots.
• In middle-aged individuals, the most common cause is degenerative spondyloarthritis, more often in the lumbar and less often in the thoracic spine.

Degenerative spondyloarthritis is a type of arthritis in the spine and is usually the result of the chronic impact of either discopathy – herniated disc or a scoliotic or kyphotic condition that began in childhood – adolescence and gradually affected the biomechanics of the spine.
