If Stamu's life were to become a script or a movie, it would certainly be an epic film with elements of lyrical songs.
The Asia Minor Campaign and its consequences (orphanages, unemployment, underemployment, poverty, but also the urbanization of the Greek landscape), the Occupation, marked by the death of her older brother, the black market operated by her mother and her mother's lover, post-civil war Greece, which the fearful Stamu remains silent about, but which existed, and in which our singer undertook lightning tours, the spirit of anti-communist suspicion and oppression of the dictatorship, her travels across the five continents and all the seas, which bring to the forefront the Greek communities abroad, the festivals, the clubs, the behind-the-scenes of the music industry, compose crowded and boisterous scenes of an epic and multi-layered narrative.
Once again, centered around a wandering singer, urban folk music can become a tool for understanding our world.
