It is an indisputable fact that we do not yet know the history of modern Hellenism well, especially its beginnings and the period of Ottoman rule, although researchers have increased in recent years, as have systematic works.
This is because the material is vast and varied. Great patience, effort, and a lot of time are needed to study the published Greek sources so far, whether Byzantine or post-Byzantine, as well as the rich foreign-language sources, and to utilize the information that still remains hidden within them.
Additionally, it is necessary to collect and make known the abundant unpublished historical material and to publish the most important of it, so that specific studies and monographs can be written on various issues or for certain time periods, thus making the historical synthesis as accurate and complete as possible.
However, the recognition of these difficulties should not hinder, nor has it hindered in the past (when the material was incomparably less) the writing of the history of modern Hellenism.
