Then, eleven years ago, it was Ronaldinho and Zidane. Today it is Messi and Ronaldo. Back then, in the first edition of this book, we wrote: "Our opinions about football became two in one. And no matter how much we want to say that our starting point is our love for the ball and our hope that the crowd will finally expose the football charlatans in the spotlight... in reality, the pages that follow are all that remains of the insatiable longing of two guys who reached forty, but refuse to reconcile with the now unattainable dream that when they grow up, they will become footballers."
Now, with another decade behind us, managing "unfulfilled desires" may be easier. However, reconciling with the idea that we have definitively "lost the ball" is impossible, and that the game remains in the hands of football charlatans, crude merchandise and a laundering machine for respectable businessmen and dark activities. Such a reconciliation amounts to the admission that the story has ended... Obviously, the story has not ended. We are simply living the prolonged chapter of decay, in which, regarding the management of football as a commodity, everything seems stagnant and identical both inside and outside the borders.
