The Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 adapter allows you to connect Thunderbolt and Thunderbolt 2 devices, such as external hard drives and Thunderbolt docks, to any of the Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) / USB 4 ports on your Mac.

As a bidirectional adapter, it can also connect new Thunderbolt 3 devices to a Mac with a Thunderbolt or Thunderbolt 2 port and macOS Sierra or later.

Additionally, it can be used to connect Thunderbolt displays—such as the Apple Thunderbolt Display and LG Thunderbolt 2 displays—to any of the Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) / USB 4 ports on your Mac. However, to use this adapter with an Apple Thunderbolt Display, a power source is required, as the display does not provide power through the adapter.

Note: The adapter does not support DisplayPort displays, such as the Apple LED Cinema Display, or third-party DisplayPort and Mini DisplayPort displays.

The problem is that some drives take a while to connect and often require multiple disconnects/reconnects to see them all. On the other hand, while Apple explicitly states that the adapter does not transmit video signal, in my case my dell monitor connects and works perfectly! In short, this purchase was a necessary evil, otherwise I would have to buy a new thunderbolt 3 dock for my drives at a high cost. I wish it worked more seamlessly, but I can't find an alternative on the market.
