The eight essays of the fourth booklet in the series "Writing and Reading" look into the poetic work of Odysseas Elytis.
Their final compilation in the present booklet clearly defines both the center of his poetry and poetics as well as the intersecting regions.
At the center, the automatic lyrical euphoria of the poet is immediately recognized, which is hard to find in other poets—both ours and foreign.
This at times transcends into lyrical eloquence, fueling Elytis's language-centered lyricism.
In contrast, when and where the lyrical euphoria condenses, it produces vertically oriented poems, constituting the poet's "internal" lyricism.
In the first case, somewhat relief-like poems emerge, while in the second, fully lyrical ones.
