The book includes events from the summer of 422 BC to 416 BC. In 422, everything pointed to the arrival of peace. The death of the two leaders, Cleon and Brasidas, in the Battle of Amphipolis greatly facilitated this, as they were the most opposed to peace.
However, the Nicias Peace of 421 BC was not meant to last many years. Before it was officially dissolved in 414 BC, it had faced many blows from the very beginning and repeatedly. Throughout this period, the central figure was Nicias.
