This book is the German translation of the book “Computational Linguistics” by the same author. The increasing number of applications for computers has been linked to the expanding variety of data types to be processed by computers: texts, images, videos, audio files, and additionally, natural language as a means of communication between humans and machines.

For humans, the element of communication is primarily associated with the factor "language." Therefore, in many cases, the need for understanding as well as producing natural language by computers has arisen. From these aforementioned needs, a new field of applications emerged within the realm of Artificial Intelligence: Computational Linguistics.

The models of Computational Linguistics stem from Theoretical Linguistics, and the methods are provided by Computer Science. The models of Theoretical Linguistics, that is, linguistic knowledge, take the form of rules, which the computer subsequently recognizes and processes as a program.

This book provides a general introduction to Computational Linguistics and the applications of Theoretical Linguistics within Computational Linguistics.
