Description & Specifications

As a dynamic entity of the Greek cultural production landscape, which is constantly seeking to expand its activities, the Benaki Museum has added another goal to its priorities: to actively participate in the field of contemporary art by creating suitable conditions, making its spaces available, and providing stimuli for the production and presentation of art to the general public.

For this reason, it now regularly presents contemporary works, thematic exhibitions, and artistic installations by artists who are at the height of their creativity—works that invest in a dynamic relationship between the artist and the viewer, within a vibrant environment of exchanges and dialogue.

In this spirit, in the autumn of 2008, the Benaki Museum hosts in the atrium of its building on Piraeus Street, the work "Living Small" by Maria Loizidou, in which the artist addresses the production of artworks as a process paralleling agricultural cultivation and botany, as well as the very concept of the museum itself.

Such proposals and their implementation, after all, respond to the Museum's future plans for a more systematic and substantial engagement with the world of contemporary art. (Polyna Kosmadaki, Sophia Handaka - Benaki Museum)
