Description

Description

Every recession reminds us of the dangers that our social organization faces when there are no barriers to business initiatives and the pursuit of profit, when economic developments are unchecked and the inequalities that society breeds are not acknowledged.

Every crisis thus serves as an opportunity to reassess perceptions and institutions and to establish new rules. The reassessment is more necessary than ever. Wealth is generated and lost through speculative constructions of capitalists. Less and less attention is paid to labor. Productive processes, education, and the environment, despite technological progress, do not meet the needs of people. Poverty still exists, and indeed on a large scale.

Today we are paying the price of the doctrine of uncontrolled market operation, which conservative political forces imposed because it served the economic interests that supported them. States today experience one of the few moments in which they can, without strong objections, impose rules of the game on businesses.

The political stakes of the conflict that will break out immediately after the partial normalization of the situation will concern the role of the co-responsible state. The outcome will be determined by the stance of political leadership and the social-political struggles that will accompany and shape the ongoing state intervention. They will determine whether there will be more democracy, development, and social justice. The crisis is a challenge for action.
