In the history of the Macedonian issue, there are blank pages that remained unfilled for many decades due to political and other considerations, or remained unwritten due to the tumultuous situations that plagued the Greek state from the early 20th century until the transition to democracy.

The dark aspects of this history are thoroughly investigated in the book by Spyros Kouzinopoulos, where significant facets of the problem are examined, such as:

• the pressures exerted by the Comintern on the KKE in 1924 to force it to adopt the politically destructive slogan of 'independent Macedonia'
• the role of Kolárov in the decision of the Communist International to create the Balkan Communist Federation
• how 'Macedonian' figures like Dimitar Vlahov, Vladimir Poptomov, and other big players, who were instructed by Tito, created 'overnight' the People's Republic of 'Macedonia' within the framework of federal Yugoslavia
• the objectives that Tempo sought to achieve with his efforts to establish the Joint Balkan Headquarters of the partisans
• the secret protocols of the Bled agreement between Tito and Dimitrov; Stalin's stance on the Macedonian issue
• the actions of the 'Slav Macedonian battalion' that existed in ELAS, and the push of its leader, Gotse, towards rebellion and flight to Skopje
• the ulterior motives of SNOF and NOF; the 'complete national restoration of the Macedonian people' as included in the resolution of the 5th Plenary of the KKE, in January 1949
• the stance of the Slavic speakers in western Macedonia and the efforts to win them over.
