Description

This syntax guide is aimed at both the non-specialist reader studying Russian as a foreign language and the specialist reader seeking a description of a syntactic phenomenon in the Russian language.

While this syntax guide is fully updated in terms of contemporary linguistic approaches in the field of syntax, the description of the phenomena includes anything that is practically useful to the reader, and therefore the organization of the material is largely traditional.

This syntax guide is a continuation of our previous book "Grammar of the Russian Language. Morphology," published in the series "Hellenism and the World of the Slavs" under the direction of the honorary professor of the Aristotle University and corresponding member of the Academy of Athens, Mr. Antonios-Emilios Tachiou, by the publishing house University Studio Press Thessaloniki 2003.

This book is the first systematic description of the syntax of the Russian language in Greek.

Its purpose is the systematic descriptive presentation and analysis of the syntactic system of the Russian language, as well as its use in oral and written speech.

This book describes both simple syntactic structures (nominal and verbal phrases) and complex ones (simple and compound sentences). For the translation of syntactic terms into Greek, we tried to use as many traditional syntactic terms as possible, where they existed. In cases where the corresponding syntactic term is absent from Greek, we used terms from contemporary linguistic science, which we explain in the course of presenting the material. Where necessary, we referred back to our previous book to connect syntax with morphology. [...]
