After the international (and Greek) bestseller TELL YOU A STORY and the STORIES TO THINK ABOUT, Opera Publishing continues the publication of psychiatrist Jorge Bucay's works with STAND ON ME, a book that uniquely analyzes the living conditions of today's forty-somethings who continue – despite their resilient neuroses – to seek balance and happiness while struggling against the adversities of everyday life.
The protagonist, known from TELL YOU A STORY (former student) Damian, enters the fifth decade of his life carrying a divorce, several problematic relationships, the loss of a beloved father, a demanding and caring sixty-five-year-old mother, a demanding career as a nephrologist, and many friends, each with a different 'complexity index'.
As a result, the presence of Jorge – or 'Big Guy' – the beloved psychoanalyst who had helped Damian in his youth, is deemed essential. However, Jorge-Big Guy has disappeared...
The book moves along the axis of TELL YOU A STORY in terms of the alternation of dead ends and redemptive stories, but the quests and conclusions differ, adapted to the mature age of the characters and the conditions of (globalized) modern adult life.
