Description

Description

The largest work of William Shakespeare was written in three parts, with the poet first writing the Second Part (1590), then the Third Part (1591), and finally the First Part (1592).

The historical material is drawn from Holinshed's Chronicles (1587). The story of King Henry VI unfolds alongside a historically significant event for England: the conflict between two of the oldest houses, the Lancasters and the Yorks.

A simple quarrel in the courtyard of the legal school in London between representatives of the two houses led them to wear either a white or a red rose on their hats, and the situation escalated into a civil strife, the famous 'Wars of the Roses', which plagued England for decades.
