Aristophanes is the great creator of ancient Greek comedy, a man who, with poetic grace, impressive boldness, and a critical spirit, satirized the wrongs of his homeland and his time.

Although he draws his subjects from contemporary realities, he has captured the timelessness of human problems. From his rich body of work, eleven comedies have survived: "The Thesmophoriazusae," "Acharnians," "Hipparchus," "Clouds," "Wasps," "Peace," "Birds," "Lysistrata," "Frogs," "Assemblywomen," "Wealth."
