The progressive discourse, the leftist discourse, has always been creative; it is a discourse that forecasts, a discourse that designs. The progressive discourse is a discourse that concerns the future.

It stands in contrast to two mentalities. One cultivates social pessimism by arguing that, in a world where things are already going badly, the situation will only worsen, because the forces of international capital unilaterally dictate the game. The other argues that market mechanisms are the decisive element for evolution; the market's autopilot is what primarily guarantees a better tomorrow.

Both of these mentalities exclude the possibility of establishing a relationship with the future that would be determined by the ideas and initiatives of society; they do not allow hope. However, hope is the main ingredient of progressive ideology. What happens does not stem from irreversible laws. The citizen has another avenue besides resignation and submission.
