Description

The satirist, the more he loves, the harder he strikes at the wrongs of the state, because he wants to awaken both the rulers and the people, so they can take the path of truth and reconstruction.

Thus, the furious poet here, during a barren period of Hellenism (1907-1909), takes up the whip of Archilochus and the "triple verse from Dante's Hell" and lashes out at everything rotten, corrupt, and false.

The Kostis Palamas Foundation publishes in a separate volume the "Satirical Exercises," commented on by Professor Michalis Meraklis, a collection that has become legendary, timeless to the passage of time (1908-1909/1912) and therefore so relevant.

This is one of Palamas's "most fertile and powerful" works (Varnalis), which has "something of the biblical precision of the prophets of Israel" (Chourmouzius); the discourse here "burns and purifies" (Dhamaras) and the pain and passion for the better "ignite the poet’s verse" (Panagiotopoulos).

The "Satirical Exercises," a collection of "cyclical inspiration" that belongs to the "lyricism of we," represents a work in which art and discourse are at their finest hour.
