Sophocles is the second of the trilogy of the great poets of dramatic poetry in ancient Greece. He presents in his works idealized figures that serve as models for human behavior.
The plot of his works is highly technical, and the portrayal of the characters is vivid and lively. From his rich body of work, seven tragedies have survived: Ajax, Antigone, Electra, Oedipus Rex, The Women of Trachis, Philoctetes, Oedipus at Colonus.
