Sophocles is the second of the trio of great poets of dramatic poetry in ancient Greece. He presents in his works idealized characters that serve as models for human behavior.
The plot of his works is highly technical, and the portrayal of the characters is vivid and lively. From his rich body of work, seven tragedies have been preserved: Ajax, Antigone, Electra, Oedipus the King, Trachiniae, Philoctetes, Oedipus at Colonus.
