In the context of his interpretive Sermons, St. John Chrysostom extensively engaged with the Holy Scriptures. Preferring to select biblical passages, he interprets and delves into them, usually not omitting constructive extensions.
This is because he typically speaks before an assembly and is concerned with the spiritual cultivation and moral teaching of his listeners. Beneath the letter of the text, he often seeks various symbolisms.
In the year 386, he delivered a series of 9 Sermons in Antioch, in which he interpreted the first chapters of Genesis, while two years later, in 388, he delivered another series of 67 Sermons on the remainder.
This volume includes Sermons H'-ΙΔ', which address the text of Genesis from chapter A' verse 26 to chapter B' verse 20, that is, from the creation of Adam to his placement in the garden of Eden.
