The Divine Liturgy of Saint Basil, as well as that of Saint John Chrysostom, in terms of structure, main parts, and characteristics, is rooted in the ancient tradition of our Church, as it was shaped in the early centuries of undivided Christianity.

Subsequently, it evolved in some parts, but it remains alive and capable of continuing to spiritually nourish the thirsty souls of the faithful throughout the ages of our Church. As it is structured today, it is celebrated only ten times a year: on January 1st (in memory of St. Basil), on the five Sundays of the Lenten Fast, as well as on the eve of Christmas and Epiphany (except on Saturday and Sunday), on Holy Thursday and Great Saturday (connected on these four occasions with the service of Vespers).

The purpose of our effort to render the original text of the Divine Liturgy of St. Basil into Modern Greek is evident: so that the faithful reading the text can deeply comprehend the exquisite and mystical prayers composed by the holy Father.

The text we used in this endeavor comes from the "Ieratikon" of the Apostolic Diaconate (4th edition, 2002).
