Description

Description

Byzantium is a world full of noise, movement, wonders, mysteries, songs, celebrations, riches, battles, stories. A world full of colors. Red, like the purple of its emperors. Gold, like the backgrounds of the mosaics in its churches. Black, like the robes of its monks. White, like the unknown lands beyond its borders. Blue, like its sea and the dresses of its noblewomen. Green, like the crops in its vast spring fields. But not only. Byzantium does NOT have only six colors. Black may not even be a color. Yet it has its own stories with the most terrifying and adventurous colors. Black are the stories of the night and the stories of fear and the stories of mystery. Its own are the unsolved riddles and the unjust names. Black is what gives strength and life to all other colors. Black forbids. Commands strictly. Imposes. Restricts. Black imprisons. And frees. Because black is the color of the unknown and the foreign and the hidden. The color of the unexpected. The color of weight and the color of slavery. The color of letters on white paper. The color that writes, that makes designs. The only color that has a voice. And speaks. Black, which may not be a color, is certainly the leader of the colors.

There is no black darker than the Black of Fear. Everyone knows this, that fear is pitch black. Pitch darkness. Night as black as tar. Black gloom. So much that you see nothing. Neither ahead nor behind. Neither right nor left. Neither above nor below. Nowhere. You can't even see your own nose. You don't know where you are. You don't know where you step. You don't even know who you are. And because of your fear, you forget this. Because fear means exactly that. To know nothing. Fear is a wild beast, furious and all-powerful, a beast even more terrible precisely because you cannot see it. You don't know what it looks like. A bad thing, a thing without shape, without lines, without edges.
