The crisis in Greece is deepening, highlighting the pathologies and problems of the domestic political system, the European framework, and Greek society. The political forces that were called upon to manage this by 2015 aimed to introduce necessary reforms without investing in division. However, they were unable to overcome their existing responsibilities and complete a national strategic plan for development and exit from the crisis.
Europe appeared institutionally and politically unprepared, often acting obsessively, punitively, and ultimately ineffectively. The society, faced with the downward trajectory of the country, has experienced and continues to experience the painful anxiety about the future. In such a context, the harsh seed of ethnopopulism did not struggle to bear fruit, relying on the systematic cultivation of national division.
Today, the collapse of demagogic anti-memorandum rhetoric and the end of illusions form the painful substrate of the end of the post-transition period. The new historical cycle passes through the necessary social consensus, but also through the change of the dominant model in political practice, in such a way that truth and responsibility prevail in the political life of the country.
This reality does not constitute a depoliticization of politics. The ideological mark still exists, which is that of protecting the many, protecting those who toil, and creating opportunities for all, especially for the most vulnerable. The restart of the country will come from the modern representatives of progress, that is, from those who act and not from those who proclaim. From the responsible and not from the ethnopopulists.
The end of the post-transition period represents an opportunity for a new beginning. It is time for a restart.
