However, her world shatters when Hitler's armies attack Russia and begin to relentlessly bombard Leningrad. Yet, a light continues to shine in this grim darkness. Tatiana meets Alexander, a young officer in the Red Army. The two young people feel a mutual attraction. He, strong and confident, hides a mysterious and troubled past.

Soon, however, the terrible winter and the relentless siege by the Germans bring hunger, despair, and fear to the city. The shocking love between Tatiana and Alexander threatens to tear apart the Metanov family and to reveal the dangerous secret that Alexander carefully conceals; a secret as destructive as the war itself.

Captives of passion, the two young lovers are swept away by the wild tide that will change their lives forever. The Bronze Horseman captivates the reader from the very first page and brings to life the story of two indomitable heroic spirits and their great love, which triumphs amidst the destructive whirlwind of war.
