Description & Specifications

The fourth book of Thucydides includes events spanning two and a half years, from the summer of 425 BC to the winter of 423/2 BC. These events take place in four areas: two in southern Greece, Pylos and Boeotia, one in Sicily, and finally in Macedonia and Chalkidiki, which was then referred to as Thrace or the area of Thrace.

Of course, there are also other events of secondary importance that we will mention, but not in detail. In the events of the first three areas, the expansionist tendencies of Athens become apparent; in the fourth area, Macedonia and Chalkidiki, the Spartans began to put into action the declaration for a liberation war that they had made at the beginning of the war (B.8, 4 predicting that they would free Greece).
