Martin Crimp was born in Kent in 1956. Since the 1980s, Crimp has established himself as one of the most important contemporary British playwrights. After the successful performances of his plays at the Royal Court in London, he gained pan-European fame and influenced younger writers, such as Sarah Kane.

Focusing on political-ironic discourse, Crimp's theatre is distinguished by a writing style that is different and unconventional, often oriented towards social decay, moral compromise, and repressed violence.
