Research that began in the 1970s showed that boys performed better academically than girls in Mathematics and the Sciences, chose to study fields related to these specific areas more often, and, as graduates of the respective university faculties, occupied related job positions to a much greater extent than women.
Research on gender differences in New Technologies began nearly a decade later. Despite initially optimistic predictions that New Technologies would provide solutions to a range of professional, economic, social, and educational problems, it quickly became apparent that in this case as well, the model of gender difference was being repeated.
Today, thanks to successful educational interventions, gender differences in all these areas have been significantly reduced, and in some cases, have almost disappeared.
