This book aims to cover the material of European Union Law, commonly titled as "Community Substantive Law." Long limited to the fundamental economic freedoms of the European Community and competition law, Community substantive law has long acquired a new and significant dimension, that of "common policies."
Therefore, the comprehensive coverage of European Union Law requires the writing of a third book, concerning policies. "European Union Law. II. On Freedoms," analyzes in two parts the five community freedoms that have remarkably guided the successful path of economic integration in Europe.
A whole part is dedicated to competition freedom in order to more clearly highlight the substitution of the role of states in the functioning of the economy by the autonomous role of markets. In less institutional terms, the title of this work could indeed be about markets rather than freedoms.
This title is not negated by the dedication of the third part to the single banking market, given the tendency of community regulations to take on a comprehensive form, or better, a system form, which is based on and fueled by the systematic interaction of all community freedoms.
