The presentation in this volume of topics concerning both the integration of the building into the natural and built environment and the building's behavior in relation to either natural phenomena (such as air, heat, sunlight, rain, humidity, etc.) or phenomena resulting from human activities (such as noise and acoustics, fire, energy, etc.) does not mean a fragmented, theoretical, and isolated approach to the above topics, but rather that they are addressed as part of a unified teaching and a comprehensive application process that considers building construction as part of a broader design with parameters of environmental dimension.
As mentioned above, it is given that these issues, in most cases, determine the design choices that relate to the shape and organization of spaces both inside and outside of buildings, as well as the form and volumes of the constructions themselves.
Consequently, a design approach that leads to the adoption of the terms, effects, and negative outcomes of the imposition of natural phenomena and consequently to the benefits that arise from the prevention of their harmful effects on the building envelope (rather than an attempt to ignore and combat these effects) is evidently one that can yield only advantages.
