This book, along with the corresponding Volume 1, covers a wide range of problems in classical and modern control of continuous-time systems through 12 chapters. The selection of exercises and the method of solving them were made with the aim of deeper understanding and reinforcement of the basic principles of the science of automatic control.
Volume 2 includes five chapters, and the numbering of the chapters in this volume continues from Volume 1.
More specifically:
- Chapter 8 deals with the compensation of systems using classical methods, based on the geometric locus of roots and frequency response (Bode, Nichols plots). That is, compensation of systems with delay and phase lead networks, as well as combinations of these (delay-phase lead) and, more generally, with PID controllers.
- Chapter 9 deals with the modeling and analysis of systems in state space. It analyzes and examines various equivalent forms of representation, controllability, observability, different types of responses, natural frequencies, the separation into controllable/observable and uncontrollable/unobservable subsystems, etc.
- Chapter 10 deals with nonlinear systems. More specifically, it addresses the modeling of nonlinear elements based on descriptive functions, investigates the existence and types of stability of limit cycles. It also deals with phase space analysis based on isoclines, as well as the exploration of the stability of linear and nonlinear systems using Liapunov methods.
- Chapter 11 discusses special forms of representation of multi-variable linear systems, time-domain compensation with feedback of state variables, state estimators, etc.
- Finally, Chapter 12 focuses on the optimization of linear systems, through suitable performance indexes.
