Description

Description

This book focuses on the connection between electoral and party systems, a topic that has engaged and continues to engage public opinion and researchers. Among the variety of relationships that may exist between these two systems, their interconnection is politically the most significant.

The electoral system is an easily accessible and effective tool that can guide party systems. Public debate takes place between the options of the majoritarian system and the proportional system. However, these alternative options are very general. In practice, we encounter many different electoral systems, which unfortunately are not presented in a practical categorization for those interested and for scholars.

This book examines electoral systems. It provides an introduction to the overall subject of electoral law in modern states through the necessary realistic, conceptual-systematic, and theoretical aspects. It initially addresses the characteristics of elections and electoral rights (in the sense of the right to vote and be elected).

Next, it introduces questions and methods for examining electoral and party systems. The next three chapters focus on the structure of electoral systems, the core ideas and normative criteria, as well as the types of electoral systems, their categorization, and their effects.

Following this, there is a detailed overview of electoral systems in today's world. The next chapter presents analyses of the electoral systems of specific countries. In the final chapter, the connection between the electoral and party system is systematically unraveled in relation to the most fundamental aspects that have already been touched upon in the previous chapters.

This is an extremely timely book, useful for all those engaged in the subject as well as for anyone following political and party developments.
