Description

The study "The Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM) - Legal aspects of the first pillar of the European Banking Union" presents in detail the institutional and regulatory framework of the Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM), which is the first pillar of the European Banking Union and came into effect on November 4, 2014. It is written in English and is structured in seven sections.

The operational framework of the SSM is integrated into the new European Banking Law, which has gradually been developed since 2008 to address the issues arising from the recent international financial crisis and the current fiscal and debt crisis in the euro area. In this context, the Council Regulation governing the SSM (1024/2013) assigned "specific tasks" of micro-prudential banking supervision to the European Central Bank.

The monograph aims to be a useful tool for lawyers and economists who wish to understand the functioning of the first pillar of the European Banking Union and, more generally, to be informed about the main directions of European financial policy. It is also targeted at students of law, economics, and political science, serving as a tool for deepening knowledge in European Banking Law.

The work concludes with a systematic cataloging of relevant primary sources and a comprehensive bibliography, as well as an alphabetical index of terms to facilitate the reader.

The study is published by the LEGAL LIBRARY in collaboration with the European Public Law Organization (EPLO).
